SCHEDULE CONSULTATION

Scheduling and Appointments

First, please double-check the date and time of your surgery. We ask that you arrive about 15 to 30 minutes before your scheduled time. This gives us a chance to handle any last-minute paperwork without rushing.

If you need to make changes or just have a quick question about your appointment, give our office a call. We are happy to help you find a new time if needed.

In the Days Leading Up to Surgery

A little preparation at home goes a long way. Here are a few things you can do to get ready:

  • Find a Companion: If you are having sedation or anesthesia, you will need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for a while. It’s important to have this arranged ahead of time so you don’t have to worry about it on the big day.
  • Create Your Recovery Space: Set up a cozy spot at home with pillows, blankets, and something leisurely to do, like reading or watching TV. You’ll want a comfortable place to rest when you get back.
  • Stock the Kitchen: It’s likely you won’t feel like cooking right after surgery. Stock up soft, easy-to-eat foods like yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and soup.
  • Fill Prescriptions: If we give you prescriptions ahead of time, head to the pharmacy to pick them up before treatment. Having your medication ready at home means one less stop to make after your procedure.

The Day Before Your Surgery

Tomorrow is the big day! To prepare, today is all about getting your body ready.

  • Healthy Habits: Please avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 24 hours before your surgery. This helps to kickstart the healing process.
  • Rest Up: Try to get a full night of restful sleep. Being well-rested helps you have a smoother recovery.
  • Double Check: Confirm your ride and make sure your companion knows the plan. Knowing that you have reliable support will help give peace of mind.

The Day of Your Surgery

On the morning of treatment day, here’s what you need to focus on:

  • Fasting: If you are receiving sedation, it is very important that you follow the fasting instructions we give you. Usually, this means no food or drink (including water) for several hours before your appointment. It’s for your safety.
  • Medications: If you take daily medications, we will let you know which ones to take. Usually, you can take approved medicines with a tiny sip of water.
  • Dress for Comfort: Wear loose, comfortable clothing. A short-sleeved shirt is helpful for checking blood pressure and starting IVs. Please also wear sturdy, supportive shoes.
  • Skip the Extras: Please do not wear jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish, or excessive makeup. We need to be able to monitor your circulation.
  • Cleanliness: Brush your teeth and rinse your mouth thoroughly before you come in. This helps reduce bacteria.

Common Questions

It’s common to have questions as you prepare for surgery. Here’s a good place to start:

Please bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, and any paperwork we asked you to complete. It’s also a good idea to bring a case for your glasses if you wear them. Leave valuables like watches and jewelry at home.

If you are having local anesthesia (numbing shots only), you can usually have a light meal. However, if you are undergoing IV sedation or general anesthesia, you must have an empty stomach. Please follow the specific fasting instructions we provided during your consultation to keep you safe.

We understand that life happens. If you get sick (like a cold or fever) or have an emergency, please call us as soon as possible. We want you to be in good health for your surgery, so we will happily work with you to find a new date.
